Nadowli Kaleo District Assembly Reject President's Nominee for DCE Position

Image
On April 28, 2024, the Nadowli Kaleo District Assembly convened to confirm the President's nominee, Madam Haruna Mary, as the District Chief Executive (DCE).  The meeting, attended by chiefs, traditional leaders, security personnel, the Upper West Regional Minister, Hon. Charles Lwanga Puozuing, and the Member of Parliament for Nadowli Kaleo, Hon. Sumah Mwinkaara Anthony, was expected to endorse Madam Mary's nomination. Despite the MP's appeal for support, citing the need for development in the constituency, and the Regional Minister's call for a 100% confirmation, the majority of assembly members rejected Madam Mary. However, in a surprising turn of events, the assembly members voted against the nominee.  The results were as follows Yes - 24 No - 28, Total votes - 52. The outcome has left many wondering what the next step will be, with some speculating that the President may need to nominate a different person for the position. Was he not appointed a Director in 2020 via a letter from the President signed by the then Secretary to the President, Mr Nana Bediatuo Asante? (copy of letter available and can be made available if the truth is contested) 2. At the time of his appointme...
