Hon. Katherine Lankono, the District Chief Executive for the Nadowli-Kaleo district urges the Nadowli-Kaleo Student's Union (NADSU) national executives not to allow themselves to be used by politicians to vilify their leaders in the constituency and the nation at large.
Addressing NADSU national executives during their first council meeting held on the 16th of October 2021, which was chaired by Hon. Nestor Mwinterebo, the District Chief Executive said some of them (students) some times are influenced by politicians to utter slanderous statements against their leaders in their society which according to her is a bad act and as students who are still climbing the academic ladder must desist from such act.
Citing an example, she indicated that, the Right Honourable Speaker, Alban S.K Bagbin never knew he would be a speaker of parliament until the eve of 7th January 2021 when he was elected and so if any of them who were present at that meeting was used by other politicians to speak ills about Rt. Hon. Bagbin, can any of them go to him for any help now that he is the speaker? She rhetorically questioned. In view of this, she entreated all to be measurable with what they do.
Addressing the concerns that were raised by the union's president, Mr. Kpaamah James with regards to the need for the district to have a library, youth center and a well furnished Information and Communication Technology (I.C.T) Center, she said they are working on them and that some documents need to be released to the assembly before they can complete some of the structures.
Concluding her speech, she cautioned the leaders of the union that, leadership is not an easy thing however, leadership is about service, patience giving and selflessness. And that they should be each other's keepers in everything that they do as students.
