HON. NICHOLAS SOYIRI ENGAGES BRITISH HIGH COMMISSIONER TO GHANA ON SUSTAINABLE STRATEGIES FOR (STAGE) PROGRAMME



Yesterday,17th August , 2022. At the invitation of the British High Commissioner to Ghana Her. Excellency Harriet Thompson to a breakfast meeting at Royal Cosy Hills popularly known as Jirapa Dubai for a brief discussions on areas of interest in development and update on strategies for sustainability of the Strategic Approaches to Girls Education (STAGE) Project in Jirapa  Municipality.


THE STAGE PROJECT, has bridged the equity gap in education in favour of the girl child, it has both formal and non-formal components.

 

Since 2019, the Municipal Assembly through the Education Directorate has collaborated with Pronet North in the implementation and the following remarkable results has been achieved.


The  formal component recorded 904 girls transitioned into 27 Schools across 35 Communities Municipal wide.

98 of these girls have been provided with bicycles to facilitate their movement to school especially those far away from their schools.


The informal component trained 198 women in income generating activities and supported with start-up grants. Specifically, in Weaving, Beads Stringing, Soap Making, Pastries, Smock Sewing. Refreshingly, 6 out of these 198 women are Persons With Disabilities.


Hon. Lawyer Nicholas Soyiri noted, the impact of these interventions can not be under estimated the very reason to appreciate and thanked the British Embassy for the funding and the need for his office to sustain the project.


The Hon. MCE, graciously used the opportunity to outlined the following as strategies for sustainability of the project.


THE FORMAL COMPONENT

The Municipal Assembly will target these girls and their schools in the provision of infrastructure and other complementary facilities such as classrooms, furniture, potable water among others.


Posting of adequate teachers in these schools will be prioritized.

Admission of these girls into the Girls Model Boarding JHS will be prioritized.

These girls and their schools will be prioritized in all government pro poor social and economic interventions such as GSFP, LEAP, Ghana Productive safety net project and others.


THE NON-FORMAL COMPONENTOF STAGE PROJECT

The Assembly will facilitate the formation of the 904 trained girls into groups based on the income generating areas and animated through the Ghana Enterprise Agency in collaboration with Pronet North for better targeting for the future.


904 girls will be mainstreamed into Youstart Programme.

These girls will be link to the office of Enterprise Agencies for business advisory services such as coaching, counselling and others.


The six Persons With Disabilities (PWD) trained, will be added to the Disability Album and supported financially from the PWD Common Fund.


Other areas of developmental concern were equally discussed and the High Commissioner been accompanied by the Hon. MCE to Ullo to engage some beneficiaries of the Project.
