The Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress ( NDC) , Mr. Koku Anyidoho has as usual showered praises to the president of the republic of Ghana, Nana Akuffo Addo for the rehabilitation of the final resting place of the Late former president John Evans Atta Mills and making it memorable. Speaking on NET 2 television today Tuesday June 15, 2021, Mr Anyidoho express his profound gratitude towards the dialogue show with Owuahene Antwi Boasiako. According to him, the rehabilitated Asomdwee park will be commissioned next year, 2022. Deputy Attorney General, Mr. Alfred Tuah-Yeboah’s views on death penalty was an anti-climax for me.  Though I respect his right to his opinion and would not use that as basis for rejection of his nomination, I consider his view on death penalty very retrogressive and inconsistent with the direction of the state. Since 1992, no President has signed a death warrant to execute any of our brothers and sisters on death roll.  On page 58 of the 2020 Amnesty International Global Report on Death Sentences and Executions, Ghana together with some 27 countries were described as Abolitionists in Practice. The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mr. James Oppong Boanuh has directed the Director General, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to take over the investigation of the robbery and murder incident that took place on 14th June 2021 at Adedenpo, Accra where a police officer was shot dead whilst escorting a bullion van. According to the press release dated 14th June 2021, the IGP, Mr. James narrated the robbery incident. He said whilst a bullion van was on its usual pay/collection errand, some unidentified armed men showed up with motorbikes and shot the police officer who was escorting the bullion van, who died instantly whilst the driver survived some gunshots wounds and is under going treatment at the hospital. The IGP cautioned the Association of Bankers to provide fortified armoured vehicles which will be used for carting currencies by the close of June 2021 else the police will withdraw its officers from escort duties.  .  The Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Alban S. K. Bagbin has expressed the commitment of the legislature to the attainment of the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).  The Speaker said parliament will soon approve amendments to the current standing orders of the house which would open up the standing committees for broader engagements including issues bordering on the country’s attainment of the SDGs. The Speaker was addressing heads of UN Agencies in the coutry in Parliament today.  The delegation, was led by Mr Charles Abani, the UN Resident Coordinator.  The delegation called on the Speaker to among other things discuss parliament’s role in serving as a catalyst to achieving SDGs and shaping a new framework of cooperation between the country and the UN.  The UN Resident Coordinator noted that the COVID-19 pandemic had taught the world an important lesson, that a network multilateralism was required to achieving the SGDs and peace....

  A robbery incident happened near the Korle-Bu area at Jamestown in Accra on Monday, June 14, 2021, claiming the lives of a police officer and a civilian As earlier reported by YEN.com.gh, the police officer, Emmanuel Osei, was shot by the armed men who attacked a bullion van he was escorting. According to a statement by the Greater Accra Regional Police PRO DSP Efia Tenge, the bullion van was on daily collection rounds. It has turned out that the lady was shot by the roobers because she tried to raise an alarm when the robbery was happeneing. Source, operanews
