The bullion van attack: IGP calls on CID to take over investigations.


The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mr. James Oppong Boanuh has directed the Director General, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to take over the investigation of the robbery and murder incident that took place on 14th June 2021 at Adedenpo, Accra where a police officer was shot dead whilst escorting a bullion van.


According to the press release dated 14th June 2021, the IGP, Mr. James narrated the robbery incident. He said whilst a bullion van was on its usual pay/collection errand, some unidentified armed men showed up with motorbikes and shot the police officer who was escorting the bullion van, who died instantly whilst the driver survived some gunshots wounds and is under going treatment at the hospital.


The IGP cautioned the Association of Bankers to provide fortified armoured vehicles which will be used for carting currencies by the close of June 2021 else the police will withdraw its officers from escort duties.


He also urged the public that, anyone who can in anyway help them retrieve these perpetrators should kindly do so.
