I have Dream to Become a Police Man, “Who Will Protect Me When I Am Protecting the Ordinary Ghanaian?
The insecurity and the rampant killing of policemen under the watch of government is killing my spirit and passion for the love and interest l have for the Ghana Police Service. Let me not pretend to the current happenings in our security sector because of political interest, but to be fair in this write up. How can a serious country spent gargantuan amount on foreign travels but cannot provide bullet proof jackets to her forty thousand (40.000) police men? Where is the logic here? The huge monies used to hire the private jet could have been used to acquire some of these bullet proof jackets, at least a rescannable number.
I strongly believe our government faculties are not working, but let me only use this write up to appeal to our youth, to desist from criminal activities that affect peace and security in our communities and the country at large. The telenovels we watch today on our television set is a contributory factor to the increased in these criminal activities among the youth. With reference to the Rt. right Honorable speakers’ speech at the launch of the book: “My Defining moment: A trig from the village to parliament and beyond”, on the 4th June, 2021, at the Ghana international press center. With all due respect, I ask for permission to use some of his phrases in his submissions to back up my write up. “The telenovelas of today on our television sets are figments of imagination from the cultures they originated from, which have been developed into story lines. Very often, they have no bearing on our culture”.
So, I do acknowledge that, there is a vast difference between telenovele and actual facts or action. Why am I quoting this statement from the right Honorable speaker? His speech is not related to my topic under discussion, but I want we the youth to understand the real difference between actual action and telenovelas so as to desist from copying other cultures blindly.
The insecurity is not only an individual concern but a concern for all. As a united nation, a country with one destiny, we must desire a free and secured society free from bandits and other criminal activities. We all must come together to ensure a formidable security system in a beloved country.
I have a dream to become a police man because l love to protect my people. I love my country and I will love to work as a police officer. I pledge to defend and uphold this nation in a high esteem. However, l always ask myself, who will also protect me, when l am protecting the ordinary citizenry? Is our governmental and security apparatus working? Is Separation of powers among the various arms of government as indicated in our constitution a joke? The ministry responsible for the procurement of logistics for our security sector scamming us our tax payers’ money? If there are no answers, as l know it will be as usual, I will not hesitate to ask more.
My love for the Ghana police service keeps on depreciation every day as I see colleagues who are policemen suffer in the hands of a careless and an incompetent government. It is so disappointing as a member of such a government full of democrats.
We don’t have to forget that saying which goes “when the last tree dies, the last man is on the line” so be it in our security sector. Let’s don’t use political power to suppress the voiceless that call for peace and security, to stop people from causing harm in our security sector.
A vivid recall of the sideline of Mr. Kofi Boakye was uncalled for, but because of stupid, if l may say, political ambition, without also looking onto what he is adding to our security sector, he is sidelined due to somebody’s mischief, parochialism and selfishness. Let’s not dispensate diplomacy in a broad day political scene: those that are qualified for the job, should be given the job. Beyond what they will gain in return, they will be able to deliver to the expectation of our beloved tax payers. Let us leave politics aside and handle issues with with seriousness.
As “a police man”, why should l loose my life due to unavailability of logistics, or resources, such as bullet proof jacket, and insufficient ammunitions even when we pay taxes every month? Is my employer scamming me? That I can not answer, because when you are born to cruel and selfish parents, definitely, hardship and starvation will be your trials. “The law of hereditary”. The police service deserves better than what we are seeing.
This brings me back to ask myself as “a day dreamer”, who wants to join the Ghana police service. Who actually monitors the activities of the Ghana police service? Is it the interior minister or the IGP? Or it is the executive arm of government? All these questions are paramount to the ordinary citizenry, because the citizens need to know the faculties responsible for our security sector. This brings us to where I feel very disappointed in our security sector.
Security is a vital structure in any democratic republic, but why am I disappointed as a citizen? I am disappointed because, the lay-down procedures we use for our recruitment have been ignored. Let us not politicize our security sector because it is a very important sector. Our inactions can make this country suffer in the hands of bandits if care is not taken. I know my party members will not agree with me in this write up, but all l can say is that, security is a curse under this current government. We have a poor, corrupt and incompetent leadership which we need to address as a nation and as political party in power.
Thank you.

Infact bru, your message is very matured but what we r seeing today is politics which is moving the country backwards. The interior minister and the Ghana police service as a whole should stop the protocol recruitment and follow the lay down procedures, they should recruit people who are qualified for the job and stop using it to play politics. Thanks very much good bro!!!!
