Jirapa MP files urgent question in parliament over 10,000 school children without desks.

The Member of Parliament for Jirapa constitutuency, Honourable Cletus Seidu Dapilah has questioned Dr. Yaw Osei  Edutwum, the minister for Education over some over 10,000 school children who do not have desks to sit on for classroom work in the Jirapa Municipality.

Honourable Cletus Seidu Dapilah filed the urgent question on the floor of  Parliament on thursday, 10th June 2021 to seek response from education minister as to when such a huge number of school children in KG, Primary and Junior High Schools across the Municipality will be provided furniture to sit on for effective teaching and learning in the classroom.

The MP had earlier revealed on Pan African TV  that

“According to the Jirapa Municipal Education Directorate, over 10,000 pupils in the Municipality do not have furniture to sit on for their lessons". This according to him is a serious setback to effective academic work in basic schools across the Municipality.

But Minister for Education in his response to the question filed by the MP, stated that the government has started processes to procure and supply 25 million pieces of furniture to schools in the country of which Jirapa will be taken care of.

Speaking to piusdoozie.wordpress.com, the Honourable Cletus Seidu Dapilah explained that " our children deserve the best of education and this can be achieved through the provision of an enabling and conducive learning environment. I'm passionate about the development of Jirapa and so I'm very much ready to go the extra mile to pursue any agenda that will  propel the development of Jirapa. I'm very optimistic that the question I filed on the floor of Parliament today will yield the expected results"

"The sector (education) Minister responded that government is running an advertisement on daily graphic papers for contractors to bid for supply of 25 million desks. He added that Jirapa will get her fair share when procurement is completed. This gives me a lot of hope and I will not relent until the situation is changed". He indicated.

He added that " I have many more urgent questions that relate to the development in Jirapa to ask in parliament. My next urgent question will be thrown to the minister for Roads and Highways when he appears before parliament. The voice of the people of Jirapa must be heard loud and clear"
