NATIONAL YOUTH AUTHORITY EMPOWERS YOUTH

 The National Youth Authority  in the Upper West Region in collaboration with Plan Ghana International, a Non Governmental Organization organized a one-day Youth Dialogue Programme on Thursday, 17th June, 2021 at Wechiau, the District capital of the Wa West District.

The theme for the programme was  "Engagement of the Youth in Development related Decision Making".

Participants were taken through some critical youth related oftopics such as: Youth unemployment in Northern Ghana and the way forward, Youth unemployment and security, Youth unemployment and entrepreneurship, the role of the youth in contributing to community development among others.

These topics were led by various technocrats with vast experiences and knowledge including ASP Alexander Tang - the Wa West District Police Commander, the National Youth Authority Regional Director and so on. 

Participants were drawn  together from the various active Youth Groups like Upper West Youth Parliament, District based Youth Parliaments, District based Activista Ghana Chapters, Birifor Youth Association, Fian Nung-Taa Peace Camp, Basic Schools and  Second Cycle institutions  across the length and breadth of the Region. 

Participants were engaged in various interactive sessions where presentations were made on the thematic areas. Questions were asked for clarification after the presentations. 

 The youth were encouraged to collaborate with the security agencies and other bodies  across the region to address issues relating to unemployment, drug abuse,  armed robbery, and other social vices that are adversely affecting the youth and the entire region at large.

Participants also used the opportunity to outline some of the challenges facing them and practical and innovative ways of addressing them across the region.

The programme was attended by notable personalities like the Wa West District Chief Executive, Hon. Edward Sabo Laabiir, The  National Youth Employment District Coordinator, Hon. Joseph Dieyintey Jorbontey and the District NABCO Coordinator who doubles as the Presiding Member for the area, Hon. Stephen Gbul Saator, the Acting District Director of National  Youth Authority, Wa West - Mr. Felix Wuurah and a hosts of other Acting District Director's of National Youth Authority.

The Programme ended successful and the participants were equiped with the needed knowledge.
