NDC youth calls on president Akuffo Addo to fulfill his promises.

The youth of the National Democratic Congress, NDC has in a petition dated 6th July 2021 called on the president of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Donkwa Akuffo Addo and his government to fulfill the promises they made to Ghanaians during their campaign.

The petition which is signed by the National Youth Organizer of the NDC, George Opare Addo, on behalf of the youth of Ghana hammered on the fact that the sovereignty of Ghana rests in the hands of the people and that, the powers of government must be exercised with regards to what the constitution demands, as he refered to it in clause 1, article 1 of the 19992 Ghana's constitution.

He stated that, the hopes of every Ghanaian after giving him (president) the mandate to oversee the affairs of the country is that he adheres to what is in the constitution, sustain peace which according to the petition he inherited from his predecessors, improve upon the economy, fight corruption, provide employment for the youth, among others. However, president Akuffo Addo's government has delivered the direct opposite of what was expected from them and also of what they promised.

According to the political activist, president Akuffo Addo has diminished almost all that the country suffered to provide and that if the country were a clock, then president Akuffo Addo has wined it " anti-clockwise". He stated that, though the country was stroked with some challenges like corruption, unemployment, nepotism, among others before he took over power, the country today needs to be fixed. And that this government is not committed to reduce the problems the country is facing today and that people who call for the country to be fixed have turned enemies of his government.

It also states that, though citizens went into contract with the president to solve their problems, his government has turned to be a problem citizens are struggling to overcome because his leadership so far is that of "let's finish everything today because there is no tommorow". And that there is no hope for the youth under his government. According to him, those the president promised infrastructural development have only what has been abandoned or nothing to show at all.

Mr. George Opare Addo also stated in the petition that, the country their forefathers laid their lives to build can not be gambled with and treated the way it is treated. He concluded their petition by enumerating the following demands from the president.

Firstly, that he should put to work the recommendations of the Emile Short Commission of Inquiry Report, compensate all victims and prosecute all culprits.

That violence acts of some security officers not only be investigated but also ensure that victims get Justice.

Also, the president should provide descent jobs to the youth in the country and also ensure the safety and security of all Ghanaians.

Their petition also demanded that the president should eradicate corruption by prosecuting victims of corruption in his government. He must also take steps to fulfill his promises which he made to Ghanaians.

The president, Akuffo Addo should also de-politicize the Security Service and introduce reforms that will ensure independence of the Security, and  finally, ask the Attorney General and Minister of Justice to improve the Justice System and wean the Judiciary off political influence.
