Soldiers to be disciplined for a disturbance at Wa - E Aggrey Quashie

  

The Public Relation Director of Military at the General Headquarters, Burima Camp, Accra, Colonel E Aggrey Quashie stated in a press release dated 2nd July 2021 that, the military personnels who involved in the disturbance at Wa, the regional capital of the Upper West region, will be disciplined. This statement was released following a disturbance by some military personnels, where some natives of Wa were subjected to various levels of brutalization.  This incident occured on Thursday 1st 2021.

According to the press statement, he stated that an internal disciplinary committee has be instituted to look into the matter and deal with all  those soldiers who will be found "culpable in the unprofessional conduct" 

He also stated that a delegation from the national headquarters will be visiting the traditional and opinion leaders at Wa so that they can find a lasting solution to the incident. He again stated in his statement that the delegation will also find ways and means to calm the anger of the people of Wa so as to promote harmonious neighborhood.

The Ghana Armed Forces finally assured the people of Wa and the general public that their safety is supreme to them at all times and therefore will not regard any unprofessional act by any member of the forces.

   

Opinion

The conduct of some military personnels theses days is appalling and we must not sit, fold our arms and allow some unprofessional persons tarnish the image of our country which some people took years to maintain. The military in my own opinion is a noble profession that commands supreme respect from citizens. I again know from my little understanding of the functions of the various security forces that the military protects lives and do not destroy.

That is why we assume the men and women who are put up there in the military are competent enough to take up such responsibility and so we know we are protected. Today what do we see, some of these personels have their hearts filled with aggressiveness, heartlessness and above all brutality. They take delight in causing harm rather than protecting. They now disperse citizens instead of uniting them. I think the military personnels who have been involving in such mischievous, deleterious, detrimental and above unprofessional should bow their heads in shame for their display of incompetency.

They have made people lose respect for such a noble profession and this must be treated with urgency by the authorities of the military before those few unprofessionals aid in  having their nobility thrown to the dogs. 

I suggest the military must look at those they recruit into the service to make sure that those picked really merit to be picked so as to curb these unprofessionalism these days on the part of the military

Again, all those individuals who involve in such act should without no hesitation be sanctioned to serve as deterrents to all those in such acts. I think these can be the only ways the military can regain it's superiority as a noble profession in the country.
