Staff of Gangaa FM on strike over appointment letters and unpaid salaries/wages

Workers of the first and only radio station in Jirapa, Gangaa 94.3 have resorted to a strike action over reasons of non-issuance of appointment letters and non-payment of salaries since they started work with the media station.

According to sources, since January, 2021, all those who have worked for the station have not received any remuneration, a reason staff therefore unanimously decided to embark on an indefinite strike starting today 21/07/2021.

According to a Staff who spoke with Jacob Ziema of Straight News on ground of anonymity, S/he explained the strike action was their last resort after management failed to make any conscious efforts to meet their request for appointment letters and payment of their promised monthly salaries. According to him/her, they (workers)  have realized that management doesn't care about their welfare even though the station has generated enough funds which part could be used to pay them wages to keep them more efficient on the job. "We all use smart phones. We buy data. Not only that, we spend a lot to make the station be a strong media house. We have ran a lot of adverts on our respective programmes. Why can't part of the funds from these adverts be used to show some level of sensitivity towards us? We have had several meetings with management over these two issues but management seem to care less about our concerns. We know this strike action will affect our dear listeners but they should bear with us". S/he explained.

According to some listeners who spoke to Straight News, they could observe that the station manager, Erasmus Kwesi Asare had to personally host the Gangaa Ansuma drive after which there was an unusual non-stop music. They requested the owner of the station, Honourable Paul Derigubaa to listen to the requests of the staff to get them back to work to continue the good job they have been doing to Jirapa and it's environs.

However, all conscious efforts by Straight News to establish contact with the management of the station for a comment on the matter proved futile.

It is predictable that

Flagship programs like senselle(story telling) and Te Saakon Yele (Our Tradition and Culture) will not come off today.
