More Relief Items for Nadowli, Kaleo As MP Recieves 10k From Methodist Church

 


The Member of Parliament for Nadowli, Kaleo, Hon Anthony Sumah is set again to come to the aid of victims of August flood disaster in the constituency. 


The legislator has been mobilising resources to support his people after the unprecedented flood disaster. This has helped him to donate several relief items to the constituents but more efforts are still being put in to enable the people recover from their loses. 


Now, the good news is that, the Methodist Development and Relief Service has donated ten thousand Ghana cedis to the victims of the flood through their Member of Parliament.


The Member of Parliament knocked on the door of the MDRS after the disaster. He presented the situation, courting the support of the church.



In a statement released by the Member of Parliament, The MDRS has met him and presented the amount to enable him give additional support to his people. Below is the full statement he released.

METHODIST DEVELOPMENT AND RELIEF SERVICE DONATE 10,000 GHANA CEDIS IN SUPPORT OF FLOOD VICTIMS IN NADOWLI/KALEO.


Earlier today, a high-powered delegation from the Methodist Development and Relief Service (MDRS) was at Parliament House to present a relief package to victims of the recent flood in the Nadowli/Kaleo Constituency. The delegation was led by Rt. Reverend Michael Bosman, the administrative Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana and Board chair of the MDRS. A cheque of Ten thousand Ghana Cedis was presented to the Member of Parliament to be used for relief items for the flood victims. The delegation included the Executive Director of MDRS, Mr. Enoch Sarfo, and the General Director of Social Services of the Methodist Church Ghana, Dr. Ken Sagoe.


Rt. Reverend Michael Bosman in his remarks noted that from the MP's brief on the disaster, it was evident that the devastation caused by the floodwaters was enormous and that the Methodist church through its relief agency felt the need to contribute in its own way to help bring some relief to the victims. He stated that the intervention was a response to the clarion call by the MP when the disaster struck. He commended the MP for the steps taken in that regard.


The executive director of MDRS, Mr. Enoch Sarfo also commended the Member of Parliament for reaching out and indicated that the token presented today was what was at hand and that the organization would explore other ways of helping the victims recover since extent of damage meant that it would take some time for a full recovery. He looked forward to a fruitful working relationship with the MP and the Nadowli/Kaleo District.


The Member of Parliament for Nadowli/Kaleo Constituency, Hon. Anthony Mwinkaara Sumah expressed his profound gratitude to the Methodist Church for the generous response, stressing that the donation would be instrumental in providing aid in the form of food to support smallholder farmers whose sources of income were completely destroyed by the floods. In line with that, the MP resounded his call for aid from benevolent individuals and corporate entities in order to cushion the most disadvantaged victims.


Present at the donation exercise was NADMO’s Director for Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction, Madam Charlotte Nana Asantewaa Acheampong, and some constituents of the Nadowli/Kaleo Constituency.
