School Feeding Program Secretariat petitioned over irregularities at Sankana E/A Primary School

W FM, a Wa-based radio station transmitting on 93.5 Megahertz, has petitioned the Upper West Regional Secretariat of the Ghana School Feeding Program (GSFP) to investigate circumstances surrounding the School Feeding Program at the Sankana E/A Primary School in the Nadowli-Kaleo District of the Upper West Region.

This was contained in a letter dated October 19, 2021, and addressed to the Upper West Regional Minister and copied to the Regional Director of Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO), Regional Director of National Investigations Bureau (NIB), Regional Coordinator of the School Feeding Program, Nadawli-Kaleo District Coordinator of the School Feeding Program as well as all Media houses.

Signed by Jahad Dapilaah, a correspondent with the aforementioned radio station, the letter alleged that their checks revealed the GSFP at the Sankana E/A Primary School which is a beneficiary, was characterized by irregularities.

It claimed that the school's caterer known as one Mr. Noah, had not been cooking meals for the pupils since June 2021 leading to the truncation of the program in the school. It added that per reports available to them, even prior to June 2021, the caterer would often not cook for a week  or more and only did so at his own will.

The statement also noted that some authorities including the Chairman of the schools' Parents-Teachers Association, a member of the Schools' Management Committee as well as the cook of the school posited how the situation led to low attendance of pupils in the school while also affecting the pupils' concentration in class which they said was also affecting teaching and learning.

It therefore cautioned that if nothing was done to stem the tide, the purpose of the program of reducing school drop-outs, increasing enrollment in schools and improving nutrition amongst school children would be defeated.

It alleged that all efforts to get the caterer, Mr. Noah, to answer to his "negligence" via phone calls had been unsuccessful as he no longer answered his calls after he earlier promised to respond to the allegations.

The statement therefore demanded investigations be conducted to amongst other things, probe the running of the GSFP in the school as well as the resumption of feeding for the pupils at the Sankana E/A Primary School.
