A JOURNEY DOWN MEMORY LANE IN PARLIAMENT - A YEAR TODAY.

1. Exactly a year today, a thespian of parliament cum governance cognoscenti( the very Rt Venerable Hon Alban S.K Bagbin) ascended to the throne of Speakership in our "Umuofia" chiefdom!

 Many political pundits, harbingers, "senior journos" and touch screen analysts never saw the very Rt Venerable Hon Bagbin ascending to the Speakership throne in their crystal ball because almost everyone in this our "Umuofia" chiefdom believed in the executive arm notoriety in having its way in everything and all time in this chiefdom because, and unfortunately many believed, that once one had countless silos of cowries, that's the prime route to heaven and so very much less looking for Speakership portfolio.

2. Many of these political harbingers, touch screen analysts and the everyday singers of the so-called independent, fearless and credible media failed embarrassingly to factor in the unassailable fact, that building a formidable, credible, knowledge, experience and relevant reliable relationship pays, which the very Rt Venerable Hon Speaker Bagbin in his entire life has built for himself.  

3. The very Rt sagacious Hon Speaker Bagbin won the position despite the eerie numerical strength in the house, and all the ugly, despicable happenings and the near coup d'etat (military besieging parliament) because he has, long in the years past, built for himself a very formidable and credible reputation which many envied, and are still envying.

4. Indulge me to tell you a short story about the man, the Rt Venerable Hon Speaker Bagbin. A year ago, my hand-to-mouth job searching took me to Eastern Region. I was jobbing in one premium reputable facility(hospital). There was this young medical doctor(name with held) who's a rabbit supporter of NPP and will stop at nothing chastising the past NDC govt, but guess what, on the 4th January 2021, when i told him that the NDC will be presenting the very Rt Venerable Hon speaker Bagbin for speakership contest, oh my God, come and see how this my political adversary defied gravity punching the atmosphere in ecstasy in support of the choice made by the NDC. I was scandalized and my buccal cavity was agape and so were many workers. The matron(another unrepentant NPP member from Kumasi Atonsu) asked Dr X, why are you so agog in support of an NDC man and there he paused, took a deep breath and said, Matron, Mr Bagbin is the reason why i am sitting here as a medical doctor today!! I(Dr X) was among the students at Legon who greatly benefited from Mr Bagbin's annually random paying of fees for medicine students(anyone who has an idea of the amount involved in reading medicine in "Umuofia" chiefdom will appreciate) who were facing hell in fees payment and so I(Dr X) will support Mr Bagbin in whatever field career come rain, come shine!

5. There i said to myself, life is indeed beautiful and lovely when you use your position, power and influence to touch others softly and impactfully in their life. I have witnessed and heard tens of hundreds of people across "Umuofia" chiefdom without coerce say good testimonies about how the very Rt Venerable Hon Speaker Bagbin has touched their lives, mentored them, goaded them and fed them and it isn't surprising seeing him being largely accepted across board as Speaker of "Umuofia" chiefdom.

6. The very Rt Venerable Hon Speaker Bagbin's aim is to build a very formidable and fearless second arm(legislator) which will fearlessly put our ever notorious executive arm in check for the benefit of Ghanaians.

The era where the legislative arm serves as a rubber stamp for the notorious executive arm is long gone because the 8th parliament composition and constitution has presented a new era.

7. I have read, that, a certain houseboy in the AG's office is burning both ends of the candle in search for something murkier to instill fear into the person of Speaker and so said houseboy is persecuting the very Rt Venerable Hon Speaker Bagbin in the animal name of prosecution. But can someone be kind enough and whisper into the eustachian tubes of that houseboy lawyer that he's in a state of somnambulism and self distraction because the very Rt Venerable Hon Speaker Bagbin is a lion born(fearless) and he's quicky clean!

8. Well meaning Ghanaians in "Umuofia" chiefdom, let's stand together with the very Rt Venerable Hon Speaker in his insatiable quest to transform and/or build a Parliament beyond the notorious executive arm interference for the benefit of all Ghanaians.

 Because in just a year, the successes chalked by the very Rt venerable Hon speaker Bagbin's hung parliament(due his exceptional sterling leadership) is encouraging and it engenders confidence and trust in the Ghanaian populace. He has by word and action demonstrated and gave proper meaning to the spirit and letter of the governance terminology, separation of powers!!.

 The eon axiom has it that, " he that's climbing a worthy tree deserves our collective help in pushing him up", so let us(Ghanaians) in deeds and prayer help the very Rt venerable Hon speaker Bagbin built a solid watch-dog legislative arm that was envisaged.

 Hearty congratulations to Mr speaker, the 137 NDC MPs, the other NPP MPs who voted for the Speaker and to Ghanaians who supported him and still supporting him.
