DBI: MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT VISITS AGENDA 111 PROJECT SITE, CALLS ON GOVERNMENT TO GIVE SERIOUS ATTENTION TO THE PROJECT.
Yesterday, the 11th of January, 2022, the Member of Parliament for Daffiama, Bussie, Issa constituency, Hon Sebastian Sandaare visited the site for the construction of agenda 111 district hospital located at Issa.
He described his visit as part of his monitoring and fellow up roles to keep the government through the minister of health, commit to the project.
Speaking to the media, he expressed his worry that the contractor has since not being on site even though the minister of health in his answer to a question he filed, did promise that the project was starting in earnest.
He called on government to give special attention to the people of Daffiama, Bussie, Issa, explaining that it is a district without a district hospital, affecting health delivery.
Background.
The President of Ghana, Nana Akufo Addo in 2019, promised to build 88 hospitals (agenda) within a year as an urgent response to covid-19.
After government had failed to deliver the projects within the promised timelines, it repackaged the promise to agenda 111 in 2020.
President Akufo-Addo on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 launched the Agenda 111 project.
The project will cover the design, procurement, construction, equipping and commissioning of 101 District Hospitals, 6 Regional Hospitals in newly created regions, as well as 1 Regional Hospital in the Western Region, 2 Psychiatric Hospitals in Kumasi and Tamale and a redeveloped Accra Psychiatric Hospital.
The project is to ensure that Ghanaians nationwide have access to quality healthcare services and with the National Health Insurance Scheme, boost the provision of healthcare infrastructure and financial accessibility to healthcare.
Doctors, nurses and other health personnel will have accommodation in the hospitals to be constructed.
In November 2021, Hon Sebastian Sandaare asked the minister of health when the construction of the hospital of Daffiama, Busdie, Issa would commence. Even though the minister of health did not give specific timeless in his response, he indicated that the project was to start within the shortest possible time.
As part of the holiday activities of the legislator, he went to the site to update himself on the progress of work. Unfortunately, even though the site is cleared with a huge sign post erected there, the contractor is not on site.
When asked what other mechanisms he could use to ensure government commits to the project, the legislator indicated that he would go back to Parliament to draw the attention of the health minister that there is no contractor on site to start the hospital for Daffiama, Bussie, Issa.
