Azumah Resources Limited Engages Media Houses In The Upper West Region.

 



Azumah Resources Limited, an exploration company at Nadowli, the district capital of the Nadowli-Kaleo district in the Upper West Region, has on Thursday February 17th 2022 had an engagement with all the media houses in the Upper West Region.


In a power point presentation, the head for the Community Relations Department, Mr. Solomon Dery, highlighted what Azumah Resources Limited is all about, what it does and the misconceptions surrounding its activities. According to him, Azumah Resources Limited is an Australian Company with the legal permissions from Ghana government through the minerals commission, that has extended its operations to Ghana, specifically the Upper West region.


Even though the company is legally recognized in Ghana, their operations according to the Community Relations Officer is surrounded by a number of misconceptions. He stated that, people in the Upper West Region have the misconceptions that, Azumah Resources Limited is occupying the whole region such that people no more own lands on their own. Addressing this allegation, he said it is not true that their company is occupying all the lands in the region for the fact that the company is only occupying a space of 1,785km square and this can not form up to quarter of the land in Upper West Region.


In addition, he said residents also have the conviction that the company is not still doing exploration but had started extraction of the gold. Explaining this, Mr. Solomon indicated that, the company is still at the exploration and assessment cycle as far as the exploration and mining cycle is concerned and so people should not mistaken exploration for mining because they are yet to move to construction stage, thus bringing on board their mining mansions and others before they can commence total mining process.


The company also tells the media houses to help tell the people that any individual or group of individuals who will be affected when the company fully starts mining will be compensated by the company in accordance with the compensation principles. They said whilst some affected persons will be given the opportunity to work in the company, others will be paid for the harm caused on them.


Stating the benefits the region will gain when they finally commence mining, he says the unemployment rate in the region will be reduced since the company will need not less than thousand people to aid in the mining when mining starts. He also stated that, the company forms part in generating internal revenue to the Nadowli-Kaleo District Assembly and therefore entreat members of communities of which their operations are ongoing to embrace them because they are not enemies and must not be treated as such.


Speaking on the critical issues encountered by the company in their line of duty, he stated that, the critical issues the company encounters are such as land acquisition and use, cultural heritage such as shrines, sacred groves, cemeteries among others then relocation and finally local employment. These critical issues according to him however are taken into consideration by the company and will be handled accordingly.


They concluded by urging all the media houses in the region to help project the sole purpose of the company and what it does so as to eradicate the misconceptions people have about the activities of the company. They also sort from the media, ideas that will aid them have successful implementation of their plans as a company.

Lambussie Young Stars Volleyball Club Smashes Host Team to be Crowned Champions in Azumah Volleyball Tournament
