Jirapa Health Directorate takes measures to curb teenage pregnancy in the Jirapa Municipality
On Thursday March 10th 2022, the Municipal Health Director in collaboration with GES and other stakeholders in the Jirapa Municipality organized a durbar at the Jirapa St Anthony's school Park on the issues of Teenage Pregnancy and Early child marriage in the Municipality.
The Theme for the program was "Reducing Teenage Pregnancy in the Jirapa Municipality the time to act is now".
The ultimate aim of the program was to educate school children about the dangers and trauma school children undergo at early age when they get themselves involved in either of them.
Madam Florence Angsomwine, the Municipal Health Director stated that, in the 2020 population census data report on Jirapa municipal, 20,903 were Adolescents which represent 22.9% in a total population of 91,279 in the Municipality however the Municipal in 2017 recorded 5 maternal deaths and 3 among them were Adolescent and to that effect they will not relent in fighting against the canker.
In addition, the Municipal Health Directorate in collaboration with other stakeholders took some intervention measures such as the organization of quizzes, durbars, drama and also the establishment of Adolescent club in the various schools to champion the canker to reduce and if possible eliminate child maternal death and Teenage Pregnancies.
Also, the Municipal Directorate with support from other stakeholders will put up Adolescent centers at the various corners in the Municipality for peers to be able to seek for advice when it comes to other sexual transmitted diseases and mensural cycle related issues so as to help reduce Teenage Pregnancy and Early child marriage
The Municipal Chief Executive Hon lawyer Soyiri Nicholas who happened to be part of the program promised to support the Municipal Health Directorate with an amount of Gh¢5,000 to help advocate the agenda in the Municipality.
He therefore calls on parents to watch the way they train their children.
