The Next NDC government will repeal the E-levy Act - John Dramani Mahama

The former president John Dramani Mahama has made an emphatic promise to the people of Ghana today, that the next government under the National Democratic Congress shall repeal the infamous electronic transaction levy.

The controversial electronic transaction levy is being implemented by the government starting from 1st May, 2020 even though many Ghanaians and the opposition opposed the policy fiercely.

The implemented which has been sadled by many challenges got many Ghanaians complaining of "wrongful charges".

In delivering a speech, today, dubbed " Ghana at a Crossroad" the former president and 2020 presidential candidate of the NDC reiterated that his party(The NDC) is not against of taxation but was quick to add that the E-levy is a "regressive tax" and that the next NDC government will repeal the tax policy.

“We in the NDC do not oppose taxation as a principle. We will not be pretentious and couch fanciful slogans to condemn the principle of taxation like the NPP did in the past. We are, however, implacably opposed to distortionary and burdensome taxes like the e-levy that only force Ghanaians to endure more suffering.

A new National Democratic Congress Government, God willing and with the votes of the sovereign people of Ghana – in 2025 – will repeal the E-Levy Act.”
