The Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the Daffiama Bussie Issa, DBI Constituency, Hon. Denis Andaban popularly known as Village Boy From DBI has on 14th December, 2022 expressed how disappointed he is on the position of DBI on the District League Table (DLT).
Speaking to Barister Enock, the morning show host for Tumpaani 88.5FM on a phone interview during their morning show, Hon. Denis disclosed that, DBI has been ranked 257th out of 260 districts in the country and has become the last in the Upper West Region by scoring 30.69% in the 2021 DLT which according to him is a "national embarrassment" as far as the district is concerned.
The DLT is the annual ranking of the districts' performance based on their developmental activities in the country by the Local Government Service as a measure of informing districts across the country on their developmental performance.
Recounting the historical performance of the young district since its establishment, he states that in the 2014/2015 DLT report, DBI has been ranked 200th position by scoring 44.45% in the performance index. In 2020, it had a reduction of 9.1% by scoring 35.35% and ranked as the 256th district in the country. Again, in 2021, the district had another 4.66% reduction by scoring 30.69% therefore ranked 257th district in the whole of the country and last in the Upper West Region.
When quizzed on some of the possible causes of the abysmal performance of his district, he discloses that, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Nadi Imoro Sanda among other workers at the DBI District Assembly do not stay in the district but in Wa, so they are not able to have enough working hours at the office.
The party communicator again stated that, the documents that contain the district's performance has always been hidden from the public hence, stakeholders do not get the opportunity to give suggestions on the way forward to having a developed district.
Village Boy therefore suggests that, the DCE must have stakeholders engagement with assembly members, unit committee members, traditional rulers and party folks to seek for their suggestions. Secondly, workers at the assembly should adapt the habit of staying in the district since accomodations are available for them. Thirdly, the assembly must be transparent to revenue generators in the district and finally, partisan politics must be avoided among assembly members in the district.
