STOP THE ‘MONEYCRACY’ AND CHANNEL THE MONEY INTO FEEDING OUR FUTURE LEADERS IN OUR SENIOR HIGH SCHOOLS
ʺVote buying and vote selling obstruct our democratic processes, yet these remain pervasive in many developing countriesʺ.
It is against this back drop that the Regional Communication outfit of the NDC in the Upper West Region wishes to condemn in no uncertain terms the allegations of vote buying that characterised the just ended NPP super delegates conference which took place across the country on Saturday, 26th August, 2023 of which the UWR was not excluded. Allegations of the Vice President and his team sharing a minimum of GH₵ 5,000 each day for about a week to the election in the UWR leaves much to be desired. By sharing so much money to delegates to vote are signs of a failed candidate trying to impose himself on the electorate. If indeed Dr, Bawumia had held up his side of the bargain, his record and the condition of the citizens would have vindicated him.
Sadly, these instances of alleged sharing of money are coming at a time our younger ones in our Senior High Schools especially in our part of the country hardly get a decent meal to eat.
Per what we heard from some MPs and the chart making rounds on various media platforms are anything to go by, each Regional Chairman receives an amount of GH₵200,000, Regional Executives, Constituency Chairmen, external branches, past national officers, national executives as well as all others including Regional Ministers, Patrons, special wings and founding members received GH₵50,000 each, whilst MPs also received GH₵200,000. These monies run into millions of Ghana cedis. At a time that the economy has been run aground under your watch, with Central Bank writing off large volumes of government debt, the IMF bailout package, further borrowing, debt exchange programmes that subjected citizens to extreme economic hardship, it is rather shocking and annoying that the Vice President has so much money to squander on his bankrupt Presidential ambition – which is dead on arrival.
If what we heard Hon. Bright Baligi, MP for Lambussie Constituency say about vote buying in our dear Region is anything to go by, we therefore wish to use this celluloid to call on our security agencies especially the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) to as a matter of urgency cause an investigation to be conducted to bring the culprits to book.
It is unacceptable and wickedness that our future leaders (SHS students) are sleeping on empty stomachs, yet government is able to make money available to give to delegates simply because they want to force a FAILED Vice President on the good people of Ghana so that he will cover up the rot and the mess that they have perpetuated on Ghanaians. Contractors, Food suppliers, NABCO beneficiaries, National Service personnel, School feeding caterers and many other people have not been paid for services they rendered for government for months and years, yet they found money to splash at delegates in order for delegates to vote for their failed Vice President. We seize this opportunity to call on the polling station executives, Regional and other executives of the NPP to reject Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on the November, 4 primary elections to register their disgust, revulsion and displeasure since he is part of the gang of failures who plunged this country into this big ditch.
If Bawumia has any ideas to offer, why could he not do it now as the leader of the economic management team? Why should he wait to be President-which we know it won’t happen-before he can save this situation. In any case was he not the one in the first place who put us into this situation? Even his Boss Akufo Addo has admitted their joint failure.
If indeed Bawumia had any ideas, why did he not use them to fix our economy in seven long years? Why has Dr. Bawumia suddenly abandoned all discussions of the economy and now switched to become an IT guru? He who could not pay school feeding caterers to feed our students, is talking about E-food? Students who do not get food to eat and even text books to study are being promised tablets by this same Bawumia! Ghanaians have indeed learnt a bitter lesson of leadership under Bawumia and Akufo Addo as Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe warned us when Bawumia was all over the place reciting his textbook economics. Ghanaians are more discerning now and never again should we fall for this lying, too intelligent by half and overrated Bawumia whose text book chew and pour economics has put us into this situation.
We conclude by calling on parents, teachers, headmasters, stakeholders and even our dear students especially in our SHSs to rise up against this insensitive government for this ill treatment meted out to them.
Arise for Change
God bless our homeland Ghana
Signed
Issah Kantagyere
