Lambussie Young Stars Volleyball Club Smashes Host Team to be Crowned Champions in Azumah Volleyball Tournament



In an attempt to foster unity and promote sporting activities in the Upper West Region, Azumah Resources Ghana Limited a gold exploration company located in Nadowli has organized a two-day  volleyball tournament on Saturday November 16 to Sunday November 17, 2024 at Nadowli in the Nadowli-Kaleo district of the Upper West Region of which Lambussie Young Stars emerged the overall champions after going through unbeaten in the tournament. . 


The 2024 edition of the tournament happens to be the fifth edition of the tournament of which nine volleyball teams participated and they included Wa Supreme Fingers, Lawra Infinite Mercies, Jirapa Hoppers, Nadowli Spring Fingers, Wa City Stars, Wa Mighty Stars, Tumu Great Fingers and Nandom Mighty Hands. 


Speaking at the closing ceremony of the tournament, Mr. Selorm Seshie, Manager of Minds Geology at Azumah Resources Ghana Limited highlighted that, the main purpose of the annual volleyball tournament is to foster good relationship among  people of the communities of which their operations are undertaken. He again congratulated all participated teams as well and added that those who couldn't emerge victorious should not lose hope but should prepare better for subsequent tournaments.


Meanwhile, the chairman of the ceremony, Naa Danyi Abatanie Boniface Kuncheni Naa who is also a member of the Nadowli traditional council thanked Azumah Resources Ghana Limited for their tireless efforts towards promoting unity among people of the Nadowli-Kaleo district and Upper West Region at large. He however pleaded with all youth of the Upper West Region not to involve in violence before, during and after the December 7 polls such that the unity that binds the youth of the region will continue. 


Awards 

Lambussie Young Stars which had the first place in the tournament went home with a cash price of one thousand five hundred Ghana Cedis, a new set of jersey, gold medals certificate and the outstanding trophy, Nadowli Spring Fingers emerged second and received a cash price of one thousand Ghana Cedis, silver medals, certificate and a set of new jerseys. Mighty Fingers of Wa became third and went away with a cash price of five hundred Ghana Cedis, Bronze medals and certificate, whilst the fourth place went to Supreme Fingers of Wa which also received a cash price of four hundred Ghana Cedis and certificate. 


Meanwhile individual players who performed marvelously during the tournament have also been rewarded in different forms. Individual awardees included 

Best Coach of the tournament which went to Bamie Ridwan, coach for Lambussie Young Stars, overall best player went to Tawaah Hamza, best libero went to Abdul Moomin Sufyan from Supreme Fingers, best setter, Amadu Alhassan, best attacker, went to Larsey Williams of Lambussie Young Stars, best young player went to Fawaz Issahaque, best opposite attacker went to Mohammed Sherifdeen of Mighty Fingers, best outside attacker Muaz Abubakar of Spring Fingers and the best middle player went to Abu Rauf of Supreme Fingers. 

Whilst some of the individual awardees went away with varied amount of cash prices, others went with medals and citations. The tournament ended on a peaceful note with hope for a much more better tournament next year.
