New KG Block Commissioned in Nadowli to Ease Overcrowding and Improve Early Education

The District Chief Executive for Nadowli Kaleo District on May 14th commissioned a newly constructed Kindergarten block for the Nadowli Model Day Nursery, marking another step in the district’s push to expand access to early childhood education.

The commissioning took place at around 12 noon, with traditional leaders, Education officials, parents, teachers, and students in attendance.

Speaking at the ceremony, the DCE said the project forms part of the district’s medium-term development plan to “touch all communities within Nadowli Kaleo.” She explained that the district is rolling out projects “in bits” and moving from community to community based on identified needs.

“We have a lot in our developmental plan. The medium-term plans have captured a lot of communities that we’re going to handle,” she said. She credited the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) for raising the funds that made the KG block possible and thanked the technocrats, engineers, planners, and assembly workers for their role in delivering the project. Appreciation also went to the media for consistent coverage and to the government for its support.

The DCE called on the community to back the government’s “resetting agenda” and confirmed that more school projects are underway.

The GES Director, Mr. Lamson Adams, described the new facility as a major relief for the school, which had been operating by “perching” in another school.

“Today, the burden of having to perch on some other schools is lifted from the school. They have their own classroom accommodation that will accommodate them,” he said.

He highlighted that many communities in the District still lack KG facilities, forcing children to trek long distances. He cited Mwanwaare as an example, where children travel to DBI for education because there is no KG in their own community. “If we can get some of these facilities for them, it will ease the burden,” he added.

The headmistress of Nadowli Model Day Nursery Mad Faustina Bodib said staff and parents were overjoyed by the new building. For years, she said, lessons were disrupted by leaking roofs at the borrowed facility, and teachers had to hold children on their laps during the rain.

“We have suffered a lot. When it is raining, I don’t know how to control the children. My Co-teacher will be carrying some on her lap. I will carry some on my lap,” she said.

She noted that despite today being a holiday, many pupils and parents turned up to witness the handover because of their excitement for the new school.

“We are very, very happy that this has been given to us. We, the workers, are going to put ourselves on the ground and work seriously to uplift education standards in Ghana,” she said.

The headmistress expressed hope that a primary block would follow soon, allowing pupils to progress smoothly without the struggle of finding space in other schools.
