Image
A Cape Coast High Court has ruled for a fresh parliamentary election to be held in Assin North. Until then, Mr Joe Gyakye Quayson the Member of Parliament cannot hold himself as Member of Parliament for Assin North constituency. He is however not barred from contesting. The judge, Justice Kwasi Boakye giving the ruling said the MP, Joe Gyaakye Quayson violated constitutional provisions and other statutory provisions that guided the country’s elections. The case of the petitioner is that the MP at the time of filing to contest the 2020 parliamentary elections, had not renounced his Canadian citizenship and thus held dual nationality. He further stated that at the close of nominations on the 9th of October, the Assin MP had not still renounced his Canadian nationality. He says the Assin North MP who still holds himself as the MP is a complete violation of Article 94 (2a) and the court should declare his election null and void. Who wields more power to maintain a smooth relationship - males or females?

Image
Relationship has to do with binding people in a particular common goal. In this context, my omphalos or focus will be on the kind of relationship with romantic or passionate attachment. People ask times without number the individual that holds greatest power to maintain a smooth, romantic and passionate relationship. Whilst some think males or men are the ones who should maintain a better relationship, others on the contrary think females or women should be at a better position to maintain a smooth relationship. Marguerite Duras once said that "the thing that is between us is fascination and the fascination resides in our being alike. Whether you are a man or a woman, the fascination resides in finding out that we are alike" . What this insinuates is that, having the power or quality to command attractions, all individuals, whether males or females must see themselves alike so as to live harmoniously. Relationship is not one person's ideology. In as much as two or more ...

THE NEXT DCE OF NADOWLI-KALEO CONSTITUENCY MUST BE A UNIFIER- NPP CONSTITUENCY TREASURER

Image
An American country music singer, television host, actor, and businessman, Jimmy Dean once said: "I can't change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination."  This profound quote from Jimmy suits well with the awaiting appointment of DCEs in our current dispensation. Everyone in the Constituency, Nadowli Kaleo in sharp focus, has a favorite person of who he or she wants to become the next DCE for the District. Considering all the wishes, the President has the prerogative and ultimate choice to appoint whoever he deems competent to represent him in the District. Top on the list, what the grassroots of the New Patriotic Party in the Nadowli Kaleo are seeking and asking for is that, the President's nominee should be a known active party member who is familiar and has respect for party structures. What is expected of the President's nominee as far as the party is concern? In my considered opinion, the party in the Constituenc...

Staff of Gangaa FM on strike over appointment letters and unpaid salaries/wages

Image
Workers of the first and only radio station in Jirapa, Gangaa 94.3 have resorted to a strike action over reasons of non-issuance of appointment letters and non-payment of salaries since they started work with the media station. According to sources, since January, 2021, all those who have worked for the station have not received any remuneration, a reason staff therefore unanimously decided to embark on an indefinite strike starting today 21/07/2021.  According to a Staff who spoke with Jacob Ziema of Straight News on ground of anonymity, S/he explained the strike action was their last resort after management failed to make any conscious efforts to meet their request for appointment letters and payment of their promised monthly salaries. According to him/her, they (workers)  have realized that management doesn't care about their welfare even though the station has generated enough funds which part could be used to pay them wages to keep them more efficient on the job. THE CLANDESTINE AGENDA TO CAUSE HARM - THE NAGRAT POLITICS IN THE UPPER WEST REGION

Image
BY SESAY A. QARDIR WA. 0206454171 Contrary to the impression being created, be it erroneous or with intent, the Upper West Region has been very accommodative, conducive and welcoming of all and sundry especially having to do with NAGRAT and its activities in the region. I have recently been dismayed to say the least, at the current crop of Regional Executives of NAGRAT as they went round the Zones within the region to conduct the Zonal Elections. The Regional Executives in a not so surprising posture took turns to address delegates by preaching against REGIONALISM, ETHNICITY and RELIGION about NAGRAT Election in the Upper West Region. One will only have to wonder, why this will rather be the case and what is the motive behind such an action. The reason for this question is rather simple. The Upper West Region has already shown the way all these while. In the last several years for instance, the Upper West Regional Executives of NAGRAT, have mostly hailed from different regions. In my h...

NAGRAT Election at Wa Municipal, Pre-determined

Image
On Wednesday, 7th July, 2021, NAGRAT exercised its democratic credentials at Wa Technical Institute Assembly Hall. Among the activities in the conference was mainly election for Wa municipal zone. This was done to get new leadership to champion the bandwagon of the association at that level. However, the issues that culminated the election left no doubts on objective-minded persons to reason that the whole election was already determined by some regional executives. The only positions that were contested for were; Zonal Chairperson and the Secretary slots. Two council members vyed for the chairmanship position. They were, Flavor Damba and Dabuo Aaron. Flavor Damba was the incumbent Financial Secretary for Wa Municipal Zone and was then going in for the Zonal Chairmanship. In the journey to the casting of votes, the Regional Chairman, Mr.Pious Larry Azumah who was in the right position to have ensured that all the courtesies and rules governing elections, were strictly followed, rat...

Re: Your Intervention in Nandom Unparalleled

Image
I have sighted a report with the above caption circulating on social media and carried by Ghanaweb as well. The said report is purported to have been filed on the back of an address read on behalf of the Chiefs of the Nandom Traditional Council by Naa Domepreh Gyereh lll, Acting President of the Council.   It is however intriguing that such a major report on the visit of the President of Ghana to Nandom will be issued without the necessary courtesies and source. But reading through the report will leave no objective and discerning observer of the politics and development of Nandom in doubt that the said report was written with deceptive intentions to hoodwink unsuspecting readers into believing that Nandom has suddenly turned into New York under Nana Addo and the NPP government.  What is even more disturbing about this report is that it makes the half truths and outright lies for and on behalf of our revered Chiefs. This is unacceptable and must be condemned without any...

Let's prioritise healthcare -Speaker urges

Image
. Agents of development in the country must prioritize the healthcare and infrastructural needs of the public as a first step to improve human capital, the Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Alban S. K. Bagbin has said. He said societies that invest heavily in the healthcare needs of their people are able to translate that into a healthy population driven towards productivity.  The Speaker made the remarks when he addressed a delegation from the Nadowli-Kaleo District Health Directorate in Parliament today.  The delegation had called on the Speaker to present to him some citations and plagues in honour of his immense contribution to the development of the area during the period he served as member of parliament from 1993 to 2021 in addressing the infrastructural challenges of the district health directorate. The leader of the delegation, Ms Phoebe Balagmum, the District Director of Health Services who read the citation said the leadership provided by the Rt Hon Speaker increa...

Upper West:Your Visit is The Most Idle, NDC Tells President Nana Akufo Addo.

Image
The Upper West Communication Bureau of the National Democratic Congress has lashed out the president of the republic, His Excellency, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo for what it describes his unproductive visit to the Upper West Region. In a statement released and signed by the Regional Communication Officer, Prosper Puo-ire, it questions the motive behind visiting only constituencies the NPP won  in the last parliamentary elections. The NDC considers this as a mark of vindictiveness, divisive, sagregative and uncomproming towards dissenting opinion. The statement also catalogued a number of developmental predicaments, ranging from abandoned infrastructural projects, bad roads, education, health related problems to the closure of the Wa airport.  Below is the full statement.  NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS UPPER WEST REGIONAL  COMMUNICATION SECRETARIAT 13th July, 2021 PRESS RELEASE RE: PRESIDENT AKUFO ADDO TOURS THE UPPER WEST REGION The NDC in the Upper West Regio...

STEP ASIDE FOR AN INDEPENDENT PROBE- NDC TO CHIEF JUSTICE

Image
The National Democratic Congress has called on the Chief Justice, Justice Kwasi Annin Yeboah to step aside temporarily as best practice requires to enable a smooth independent investigation into the bribery allegations made against him.  Speaking at a press conference today, Tuesday, 13/07)2021, the general Secretary of the National Democratic Congress said that the integrity of the judicial system must be protected and that the damming revelations against the chief justice exposes the integrity of the judicial system. The NDC do not have confidence in the current Police CID and added that CID investigation will be "woefully inadequate to assure the Ghanaian public that a thorough inquiry has been conducted into the matter." Read below, the full press statement. SPEECH DELIVERED BY HON. JOHNSON ASIEDU NKETIA, GENERAL SECRETARY OF THE NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS ON ACCUSATIONS OF BRIBERY AGAINST THE CHIEF JUSTICE OF THE REPUBLIC OF GHANA.  13th July, 2021. Good afternoon Ladi...

TUC questions why the spouses of the president and his vice be paid salaries.

Image
The Trades Union Congress - TUC (Ghana) has in a press release on 11th July 2021 raised concerns on why the spouses of the president of Ghana and his vice be paid salaries.  This happened after Parliament approved a recommendation that requires that the spouses of the president and his vice be paid monthly salaries at the level paid to Cabinet Ministers which includes arrears dating back from 2017. According to the union, since the spouses of the president and his vice are not covered under Article 71 of Ghana's constitution, there is no need for them to receive salaries. They stated that, office holders and all job holders in the public service, including presidential staffers as stated in Article 71 of Ghana's constitution are assigned to various official duties and responsibilities and therefore must be paid, however, the spouses of the president and his vice have not been assigned to any official duties and responsibilities and so they do not qualify to receive salaries ...
