The Black Stars drew with their counterparts in both home and away. The second leg like the first record a 1-1 draw with Ghana's Thomas Partey leading the netting for Ghana. The Nigerians came from behind to equalise after they were awarded a controversial penalty.  On a day many Ghanaians are disappointed in the NPP government for passing the controversial e-levy, the victory of the black stars seems to have wiped away the tears of many disappointed citizens.  The E-levy bill was passed today in parliament after the minority staged a walk out. The minority of parliament has fought the tax policy from day one of its introduction to parliament and is still against the policy. The minority has also indicated its intention of challenging the passage of the bill in the Supreme Court over issues of quorum.  This evening, social media is inu...

This is why the Minority walked out...

Image
On the 26th of November 2021, NPP Majority walked out of parliament when it was time to approve the 2022 Budget because they didn't have the numbers (Adwoa Sarfo was absent). This made the minority with 137 reject the 2022 budget. On the 30th of November 2021, the NPP gathered their members (138) with 1st Deputy speaker presiding to approve the 2022 budget, stating that the minority acted illegally with their 137 members to reject the budget ( Reference: Article 104 (1)). Article 104 (1)  Except as otherwise provided in this Constitution, matters in Parliament shall be determined by the votes of the majority of members present and voting, with at least half of all the members of Parliament present. This matter was then sent to the Supreme Court for Interpretation. The Supreme court, in its ruling, accepted what the majority did on the 30th November, 2022. That is to say; parliament needs half of the members present (138) to make such a decision. Back to what happened today T...

THE BAD STATE OF ROADS IN TUMU AND ITS SURROUNDINGS - JONATHAN ZANGU WRITES.

Image
Problems of this country Ghana, are always considered very inferior until the worst things happen, then drastic measures that should have been taken to prevent the situation will now be taken which normally doesn't serve any good purpose. Even government and other politicians do come around the scenes of such incidence to cry “crocodile tears” showing “fake remorse” about the problem. Why can’t the needful be done in due time to prevent discomfort in the Ghanaian society? Are our politicians in anyway not caring about we the ordinary Ghanaians? Serving the interest of the ordinary Ghanaian should be the ultimate dream of every leader, in that sense every politician, but not to satisfy their personal hunger. Decentralization of developmental projects should be held in high esteem because the developed towns continue to get more facilities while the less privileged ones remain in a desolated state. Posturing my ideas on this scenario, I wish to petition the municipal Chief Executi...

HON DR HAFIZ BIN SALIH HAS SO FAR VINDICATED THE CONFIDENCE REPOSED IN HIM BY PRESIDENT NANA AKUFO ADDO

Image
The Upper West Region has witnessed for itself a rather rampant reshuffling and appointment of ministers to the region since the return to multi-party democracy in 1992. Most of these unexpected reshuffles come about as a result of agitations and unrest by party activists and/or executives who cite a variety of reasons for their actions and demands. Since August 2018, HE President Akufo Addo exercising the powers vested in him under Article 78 of the 1992 Constitution of our dear Republic appointed Hon Dr Hafiz Bin Salih who got duly vetted and approved for the position of Regional Minister of the Upper West Region. For his sterling performance in one year and some few months in office, Hon Hafiz Bin Salih endeared himself to get re-nominated by the President after the NPP secured a second term in office. In fact, he was among four regional ministers out of sixteen who secured re-nomination. This singular acknowledgement by the President was in recognition of his performance in o...

"Fear Does Not Kill Growth; It Transforms Life."- Bright Anderson Writes

Image
Do you know that your fear will not kill your growth but will transform your life exponentially? Growing up, I had the opportunity to meet a very successful man by all standards, regardless of your definition of success.  On one Saturday morning, he came to visit my father and I ended up engaging him in a friendly conversation. During our conversation, I asked him a simple yet intriguing question, in my opinion. I asked him the following questions at a go. • Why are you so successful? • What makes you succeed in your endeavours? • How can someone be successful like you? Well, as a child, I did not know how to go about it, yet I did it anyway -- I guess. In an attempt to answer my question, he smiled, looked at my face in a particular manner that seemed to suggest surprise or awe. He then said to me, “to answer your questions will not be easy but what I have realised in my entire life is that; success is found at the extreme stretch of fear” My years of studies and experience...

Reduce your Large Size of Government - Prof Gyampo Writes to Nana Akufo Addo

Image
Your Excellency,  I greet you. It is clear that times are hard and many Ghanaians never imagined that these will happen in your regime. You gave all of us a lot of hope in the lead up to the 2016 General Elections and to be fair, you cannot be accused for not doing anything since your election. The challenge however is that, apart from Free SHS, your appointees and communicators have been super-incompetent in touting your achievements in a manner that ingrains them in the psyche of the people, thereby creating the impression that not much has been done. But this may be discussed in detail in another candid letter to you another time.  For now, my focus is on the hard times in which we find ourselves. There may be several legitimate explanations accounting for the current tough times. But as the Hobbesian account of the generation of the Leviathan show, the essence of instituting a government, is not to explain, but to solve problems, so we do not relapse into the State of Natu...

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr. Fritz Moses, Research Analyst, IES, attributed the projected increment in prices of petroleum products to what he described as the “sharp” rise in fuel prices on the international market and “sharp” depreciation of the Cedi against the US Dollar in the just-ended window. Currently, petrol and diesel are selling at an average of GH¢8.2 per liter at the pumps. Before March 1, 2022, petrol and diesel traded at an average GH¢7.50 per liter, representing an increment of 8.6 percent in the just-ended p...
